What is the mission statement of The Walker Johnson & Nasia (WJ&N) Legacy Foundation?
It is to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities globally in the areas of health, education, arts and culture. Charitable donations received from donors are awarded as grants and scholarships to non-profits, charities and individuals to assist in their charitable service to others and improvement of life.
We support non-profit organizations according to how much good our combined donations can do. We examine the non-profit organizations’ overall quality and cost-effectiveness. We also try to determine what more funding would enable them to do. We often blog about why we choose the non-profit organizations for grants and individuals for scholarships.
Contributions to The Walker Johnson & Nasia Legacy Foundation are used for recommended grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations and are tax deductible for donors in a number of countries.
Why does The WJ&N Legacy Foundation collect/accept donations on behalf of its recommended charities, non-profit organizations or scholarships?
(1) It allows us to track our own impact on donations,
(2) it gives us a chance to ask you if you’d like to participate in other causes, and
(3) when we award the funds to the individuals and organizations, we can designate them as we believe is best for grants and scholarships.
How do the mechanics of a donation, grant/scholarship recommendation and tax receipt work?

2. Legal control of the funds belongs to United Charitable. Authority to recommend grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations belongs to The WJ&N Legacy Foundation. The WJ&N Legacy Foundation will recommend a grant or scholarship based on your preference.

DONATIONS WE CAN ACCEPT
What kind of assets can I contribute/donate to The WJ&N Legacy Foundation?
The WJ&N Legacy Foundation accepts a wide range of assets. These include:
- Cash
- Publicly traded securities including stocks, bonds, mutual foundation shares – A gift of appreciated securities, including stocks or bonds, is an easy way for you to make a gift to WJ&N Legacy Foundation. Such gifts often provide important tax advantages. Their full fair market value is deductible as a charitable contribution up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income. As with gifts of cash, deduction amounts exceeding this limit may be carried forward for up to five additional years. The added benefit of giving appreciated securities is the avoidance of the capital gains tax on the appreciated portion of the gift.
- Restricted and controlled stock
- Privately-held stock – Gifts of closely held stock enjoy the same tax benefits as with publicly traded stock.
- Real estate – A donation of your real property (such as your vacation property, vacant land, farmland, ranch or commercial property) is a great way to fund The Walker Johnson & Nasia (WJ&N) Legacy Foundation. If you own appreciated real property, you can avoid paying capital gains tax by making a gift here.
- LLCs and Family Limited Partnerships
- Proceeds from life insurance or from a full-paid policy – A gift of your life insurance policy is an excellent way to make a tax-deductible donation. If your life insurance policy is no longer needed or will no longer benefit your survivors, consider making a gift and help build WJ&N Legacy Foundation. If you name WJ&N Legacy Foundation as the owner and beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy, you receive an immediate tax deduction, which usually approximates the cash surrender value of the policy. All premium payments made by you thereafter will be deductible as a charitable contribution to WJ&N Legacy Foundation. You can then work with us to determine how the proceeds of your insurance policy can be used for your charitable granting.
- Private foundation grants or terminations
- Bequests – You designate United Charitable for the benefit of WJ&N Legacy Foundation as the beneficiary of your asset by will, trust or other instrument.
- Named beneficiary of charitable remainder trust – Give a portion of your property to fund a charitable remainder trust, and name WJ&N Legacy Foundation at United Charitable as the beneficiary.
- Named beneficiary of an IRA, 401(k), or other retirement account
- Tangible personal property – You may want to leave your home or farm to benefit WJ&N Legacy Foundation at United Charitable at your death, but would like to receive a current charitable tax deduction. A life estate reserved might offer the solution you need!
